ACADEMIC FORUM

Jane Berk, Senior Parent

Jake Daehler, Senior Parent

Erica Schohn, Senior Parent

Cathleen McLaughlin, Sophomore Parent

academicforum@laguardiahspa.org

Now that SENIORS are finding college acceptances, the academic forum will present a Q&A via ZOOM for both students and parents on what they wish they had known before applying to college. This will take place after the spring break and will be open to all grades.

AP FINALS TEST PREP DISCOUNT!

The Academic Forum has arranged to offer LaGuardia students 15% off any COMPASS AP group course review and 25% off Compass AP practice tests (including their Spring checkpoint) using the code ACADEMICFORUM. The usual price is $395 per course. The best way to track how you are truly doing in an AP class is to take an AP practice exam! Strong results on AP tests result in greater acceptance rates to college and often eliminate the need to take certain course requirements at certain colleges. Classes start in early April and the  tests are given in May.  Please refer to HERE for further information or reach out to Torsten Sannar torsten@compassprep.com for assistance.

SAT/ACT TEST PREP DISCOUNT!

If you need further support after your receive your SAT scores, review the SNN post from 3/2 for details on summer discounted test prep courses through Academic Approach. UWorld.com offers great self-directed test prep courses as does Kahn Academy and Princeton Review workbooks.

COLLEGE NOW

Program details for summer courses were outlined in the 3/9 post of SNN. College Now enables students to enhance their transcripts when applying to colleges that want to see rigor in a student’s academic endeavors. modernstates.org also offers self-directed courses taught by top level college professors in a wide variety of topics.

Feel free to reach out to the Academic Forum for further assistance at academicforum@laguardiahspa.org

Senior Trip

The senior trip is still in the planning stages, but here is what we know so far:

Location: Six Flags

Date: Tentatively the first week in June. Date has to be approved by the administration.

Cost: The PA is trying to subsidize the trip with money raised by senior class parents. We are trying to keep the cost to $50-$60 per student but this is not confirmed yet. This would include the cost of the amusement park ticket, bus, food & drink.

Confirmation and more details about this trip probably will not happen until April.

Other Senior Activities

The SGO (Student Government) is trying to plan some smaller senior activities too, but nothing has been finalized yet. If your student has a suggestion, please have them reach out to SGO leadership.

Teacher Thank Yous!

Please have your student take some time to write a nice Thank you note to teachers who wrote them college recommendation letters or helped them prepare for auditions. These teachers were not paid to do this, but did it because they believe in your student. It would mean a lot!
