Message from the Reps

Happy Monday, Music Studio Families!

We hope you had a wonderful weekend!

FALL JAZZ CONCERT

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our first concert of the season, featuring the Jazz Ensemble, directed by Rocco Carbone and the Jazz Orchestra, directed by Kevin Blancq.

The Little Flower Theater was packed - the students appreciate looking out into a full house.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Music Studio tables just to say hello or make a purchase. Your patronage is greatly appreciated and so very necessary to continue the support our students and our studio.

What a fabulous way to kick off the concert season!

See below for concert highlights.

SUMMER CAMP GENERAL MEETING

Our Music Summer Camp meeting was so well attended with 80 participants!

We were joined by representatives from five camps: Camp Ballibay, BUTI (Boston University Tanglewood Institue), Interlochen, French Woods, and NEC (New England Conservatory). Current LaGuardia students also shared their experiences.

If you missed it, not to worry!

You can read the minutes here and also access the replay. Inside the minutes you will find each of the camps listed, along with their contact information. Just for easy access, below you can find presentation materials from Camp Ballibay and NEC. Please note that not all camps forwarded presentation materials to us. We will continue to add camps to the below list to share with the music community as we learn about them, so if you have any to share, please send them to us at musicstudiocomms@laguardiahspa.org

As a reminder, our general meetings are not only for us to share information with you of what's going on in the Music Studio, but also to provide information that is relevant to you. So, let us know what'd you'd like see!

1ST ALL-SCHOOL MERCHANDISE SALE OF THE YEAR

Get your Music Studio Swag!

On November 26th, we will be selling Music Studio Merchandise during the All-School Merchandise Sale. This event takes place regularly with representation from all LaGuardia studios, including the General PA. This happens near the end of the school day (3-4:30pm), so only students and staff can attend, unless a parent/guardian just happens to be in the building during that time.

We will have a fire sale on a few select items, so be sure to send your student with money so they can make a purchase. We accept cash, credit/debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Join the Music Studio for a little "Fa, La, La, La, La" holiday cheer on Monday, December 2nd, from 6-9pm at The Gem Saloon in Murray Hill. Come and meet your fellow Music Studio parents and spread some joy!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Interlochen Arts Camp

LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Interlochen Center for the Arts share the goal of making the world a better place through arts education. I am thrilled to announce the continued partnership between our world class institutions, culminating in an opportunity for our students to be awarded scholarships to attend Interlochen Arts Camp this summer.

This year, Interlochen is offering a number of full tuition scholarships towards their 98 programs, which span 2 to 6 weeks. These programs cater to a wide range of artistic disciplines. Over the past two years, 49 LaGuardia students have received full or partial scholarships from this partnership.

In order to be considered for one of these scholarships, you will need to apply  to your preferred program by January 15th using the application fee waiver code LaGuardia24. Many of Interlochen's programs require an audition, which can be conveniently uploaded directly into your application. To simplify the process, we will be hosting in person audition tapings with Interlochen Admission staff on December 4th. If you have any questions about this opportunity or the application process, please contact admission@interlochen.org.

If you would like to sign up for in person auditions for Interlochen at LaGuardia then sign up using this form

Please do not hesitate to contact me at Bschott@schools.nyc.gov if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Schott

Assistant Principal - Music

The Music Studio thanks you for your continued donations and support for our students and studio. Your donations assist in covering the many expenses of the Music Studio, which in turn helps our students. While we work to continuously support our students and teachers, we definitely cannot achieve this without your help.  These necessary funds are used to purchase the music our students perform, workshops, master classes, professional development, accompanists and so much more.
