Message from the Reps

Happy Music Monday, Music Studio Families!

We hope you had a wonderful summer!

The Music Studio warmly welcomes all of our new and returning families. Some of our board members had the wonderful opportunity to meet some of our new families at the New Family Orientation that was held on August 29th. A special shout-out goes to our parent volunteers: Mark Lynch and Amy Zakarin, and student volunteers: Michael and Ysobel Leonard, and Emma, who helped tremendously during our orientation merchandise sales.

The entire board looks forward to meeting many more of our families throughout the school year.

1ST IN-PERSON GENERAL MEETING

Mark your calendars because our very 1st in-person general board meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 9. Time and location TBA.

MUSIC STUDIO EXECUTIVE BOARD

If you're new here, you may be wondering, "What is the Music Studio Executive Board?"

The Music Studio EB is a subset of the General Parents Association, consisting of current parents of students in the Music Studio, both instrumental and vocal. Our focus is the same: community building, support of students, parents and teachers, and LOTS of fundraising.

The Music Studio is the largest studio at LaG because we have two beautiful music disciplines: instrumental and vocal, but we are one big happy family!

Just like the General PA, there are elected board members, monthly general parent meetings and executive board meetings, and fundraising efforts through merchandise sales, direct ask appeals, and additional targeted fundraisers.

If you'd like to connect with the Music Studio EB directly, there are email links at the bottom of this newsletter under Current Music Studio Board Members.

CONNECT WITH US

We'd love to connect with you, and the easiest way for that to happen is with a Membership Tool Kit account! Did you receive this newsletter in your inbox? If the answer is yes, congratulations, that means you've already created an account and subscribed!

If you haven't, you can create an account using this link: MTK (Membership Tool Kit) and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to the communications you'd like to receive from your Music Studio under the SUBSCRIPTION tab. It's the absolute best way to stay in-the-know for all things music!

You can also join the LaG Music Studio WhatsApp chat. While this is not officially endorsed by, or part of the PA or LaGuardia, it is a way for parents to connect and get questions answered from other parents. Your Music Studio Reps and other board members are also in the chat and will happily answer questions. We're here to help!

Music Studio Funding Appeal

The Music Studio thanks you for your continued donations and support for our students and studio. Your donations assist in covering the many expenses of the Music Studio, which in turn helps our students. While we work to continuously support our students and teachers, we definitely cannot achieve this without your help.  These necessary funds are used to purchase the music our students perform, workshops, master classes, professional development, accompanists and so much more.

YoungArts COMPETITION

YoungArts is one of the only organizations in the U.S. that supports artists across 10 disciplines at all stages of development, beginning with the critical moment when they decide to pursue a life in the arts, and continuing throughout their careers.

Artists ages 15–18, or grades 10–12, in the U.S. are encouraged to apply in the discipline of their choice. All applications are judged by esteemed discipline-specific panels of artists through a rigorous blind adjudication process, and award winners are offered a lifetime of artistic support and ongoing connection with an extraordinarily robust network of peers and mentors. Åpplication closes October 17, 2024 at 8 PM ET.

FROM THE TOP Scholarship Opportunity

The Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award is a one-time, non-renewable, need-based grant of up to $10,000 given in conjunction with full participation in From the Top's Learning and Media Lab Fellowship

Each year, From the Top chooses approximately 20 pre-collegiate musicians ages 8-18 to receive the Award. The Award is given to driven and committed pre-collegiate musicians with financial need to help offset the often prohibitively expensive costs of studying classical music at a high level.

An application for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award is also an application to From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship program. You do not need to complete two separate applications. See the "How To Apply” section for more instructions.

You are eligible if you are: classical instrumentalists, vocalists, and composers (ages 8–18) who are full-time elementary, middle, or high school students, and have not yet entered college.

High School seniors graduating in 2025 must apply by November 15, 2024 in order to be considered for the award before graduation.
