Tomorrow evening, May 14th, at 6pm, LaGuardia will be presenting the Spring Gospel Concert: Victory.
The PA Music Studio will be selling Gospel fans for $5 in support of this concert and to help cover expenses.
We hope that you too will support The Spring Gospel Victory Concert by purchasing a “Victory Fan”, as this fan will be an integral part of the concert experience through audience participation.
Gospel Fan History
As common to African American culture as Southern soul food and Gospel Music, the “church fan” brought instant relief to members of the Black Churches who had little money for air conditioning in small southern towns. Seeing their popularity, many churches put their information on the back and front to become an instant talking point. Other businesses within the African American community quickly followed suit. Very soon, the “church fan” not only included information about churches, but ads for funeral homes, insurance agencies, car dealerships, and even local markets!
The “church fan” had even more of a life within Gospel Music; as the joy and fervor of the music would lead many to need a little “cooling off” after a time of singing, shouting, and dancing!
In honor of that history and culture, we invite you to buy the first ever LAG Gospel Choir fans that feature our program and will be used during the concert!
