We’ve made quite a splash this week – both literally (keep reading for news about our girls’ swim team) and figuratively (with Donors Choose and other wonderful acts of generosity.) We’ll get to all that, but first some reminders.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
We need parent volunteers to chaperone the senior picture at Columbus Circle on Wednesday, October 15th at 9:00 AM. While the rest of the school is taking the PSAT, seniors will walk over to the Circle and take a picture for the yearbook. This opportunity is for all parents, not just senior parents and it’s fun! Please
GET READY RISING STARS! Auditions will be held on
Saturday, October 25th and
Sunday, October 26th. For those with religious conflicts, there will also be auditions on
Monday, October 27th. Please keep in mind this year’s theme:
“The Pursuit of Happiness.” We’re looking forward to seeing all of our incredible students showing off their amazing talents!

WE’RE GRATEFUL!
We are in awe of those LaGuardia parents and students who we believe (we’ll have to check with the authorities at Guinness World Records just to be sure) set some sort of speed record for responding to Donors Choose project requests. We were overwhelmed by the support – not only from you (you know who you are) but also from former parents and students who were giving back to the teachers who gave so much to them. And what about the anonymous donors and the strangers who gave to a worthy cause…it’s difficult for us to be cynical New Yorkers in the face of so much goodness!
Which is a long way (our apologies, but we got swept up in the moment) of saying that
Ms. Falkove’s project is fully funded! We only have one more project, with $454 to go, and then we’ll have done it! To contribute to Ms. Fischer’s project, please

Speaking of good things, take a moment and read Mr. Singh’s letter to the Parents Association (it was prompted by a parent donation, from Yani and David Beach, of an Apple computer.)
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the P.A. for your generosity and support. Over the years my students have benefitted greatly from you kindness. This year, as Coordinator of Student Affairs (COSA), I am working closely with the Student Government and many other student run organizations to bring a true sense of community to LaGuardia involving students, parents, staff, and our local community. This computer will help us complete projects in a timely manner and benefit my office tremendously. I look forward to working with you as parent partners in assuring that our children have the best experience at this phenomenal school.
Thank You!Mr. Neal L. Singh,
Coordinator of Student Affairs

We’d also like to give a shout-out to Beacon Paint at 371 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10024. It’s a family-owned neighborhood store; sadly, these are becoming increasingly rare. Flying under the radar, and without asking for anything in return, they have never turned us down when we’ve sought their help to make our show budgets stretch a little bit (okay, a lot) further.
The next time you need something from a hardware/paint store, keep them in mind – because that’s what neighbors do.
