The Parents Association of the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art & the Performing Arts welcomes you and invites you to be a part of what has been described as “an extraordinarily active Parents Association” by www.InsideSchools.org.
The PA is open to all parents and guardians of LaGuardia Arts students without dues or fees. All meetings of the PA, the Executive Board and all PA committees are open to parents and guardians without exception. PA meetings take place once a month during the school year, usually on a Tuesday evening. The meetings run from 6 pm to 8pm, with the first hour devoted to studio meetings and the second hour to general meetings – or vice versa, as the order of meetings is alternated each month.
If you don’t know already, you will rapidly discover that LaGuardia’s jam-packed calendar of art shows, concerts, plays, dance performances, musicals, and other events will bring you to the building repeatedly throughout the year. The best way to get to know the school, the students, and other parents is to attend as many events as possible and volunteer as often as you can. Because of the many opportunities for parents to participate in school activities, LaGuardia has an involved parent body like few other high schools in New York City.
LaGuardia Arts is a special place and the mission of our PA is as follows:
- To encourage parent interest in the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts (LaGuardia High School) and its activities; and to promote the general welfare of LaGuardia High School and its students;
- To act as advocate for LaGuardia High School in its mission to provide two independent programs to every student: (1) a full academic program; and (2) a full conservatory program in Art, Dance, Drama, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music or Technical Theater.
- To provide support and resources to LaGuardia High School for the benefit and educational growth of the students;
- To promote and help develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and staff of LaGuardia High School;
- To develop parent leadership and build capacity for greater involvement;
- To foster and encourage parent participation on all levels; and
- To provide opportunities and training for parents to participate in school governance and decision-making.
To keep everyone up-to-date, the PA sends a weekly newsletter via e-mail and occasional bulletins as important things come up. DOE regulations prevent us from automatically including you on the PA email list unless you provide us with your contact information.
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT NOW and sign up for the PA email list by clicking HERE and choosing “LaGuardia Families”. In order to receive emails from your studio, you must also enter your child’s name, studio, and year of graduation and you will be added to those lists as well.
If you have specific questions about the PA and its support of the school, the individual studios, or other PA activities, please contact the appropriate member of the LaGuardia PA Executive Board by clicking HERE. Better yet, come to one of our PA meetings to meet us in person and find out how you can get involved.
We look forward to seeing you!
