Sunday Night News

PA Masthead MEDIUM
September 21, 2014
Dear LaGuardia Community,
It’s been a busy start to the year; for some, it’s been a hectic start. But it’s like brewing a good cup of tea – the leaves settle and then you get to sit back and enjoy!
For those of you who are new to the school and who may be feeling slightly overwhelmed, if we can pass on one thing we’ve learned it’s this. The key to a wonderful four years is to stay informed. That’s why we’re in your inbox every Sunday. Although it may sometimes seem redundant (and we hope you’re receiving the Yellow Sheet and all the other information from the school and the Parents Association), take it from us – as events and activities pile up, it helps to be reminded more than once. Plus, we get to tell you the fun stuff – and there will be a lot of that coming up!
So, some reminders:
For Freshmen: Parents of students with last names beginning with the letters A-E are invited to a Town Hall Meeting this Monday, September 22nd from 6 to 8 PM in theLibrary on the 6th floor. The meeting will be hosted by Natalia Castaño, Parent Coordinator. The speakers will be Dr. Barbara Rowes and Mr. Andrew Wiktor, 9th grade English teachers, and Evelyn Carela, Credentialed Prevention Specialist, SAPIS
For Juniors and Seniors: On Tuesday, September 30th, from 6:30 to 8 PM in the Little Flower Theater, juniors, seniors, and their parents are invited to attend the Academic Forum’s first College Series talk, “College Boot Camp for Procrastinators,” with Liz Willen, the parent of a recent LaG grad and a current LaG senior. Liz is a long-time education journalist who has spent years covering higher education, visiting college campuses and talking to admissions officers. She will share a parent’s perspective about the often chaotic and arduous application and college admissions process, so others can learn from her experience, mistakes, and successes, including her top ten dos and don’ts.
*Note: This Academic Forum meeting is listed on the Yellow Sheet incorrectly as occurring on Tuesday, September 23rd. There is no

Academic Forum meeting on that date; the correct date is September 30th.
Remember, school will be closed on Thursday and Friday for Rosh Hashana. For those of you celebrating, have a happy and healthy New Year! For those of you not celebrating, enjoy a happy and healthy long weekend!
